1973 Born January 17 in Tepito, Mexico City. 1992 December: Makes professional debut with Club America. 1997 July: Joins Mexican side Necaxa on loan from America. 1998 June: Plays in France 98 World Cup, where he made his name for himself with the "Cuauteminha" a trick where he jumps over tackles with the ball trapped between his own feet. July: Returns to Club America. 1999 August: Part of Mexico squad for Confederations Cup. Turns in a virtuoso performance in Mexico's 4-3 win over Brazil in the final. 2000 September: Makes his Liga Primera debut in a match against Mallorca. October: Receives a homicidal tackle from Trinitarian defender Ancil Elcock which kept him off field for 10 months. 2001 Septemer: On his comeback to football scores 2 goals against Jamaica in Kingston, he would score 3 more in 4 matches to ensure Mexico's qualification to World Cup. 2002 June: Part of the Mexican team that plays in World Cup finals. July: Return to Club America for the second time. 2004 May: Starts a brutal fight against Sao Caetano players after the Copa Libertadores semifinal match. June: Joins Veracruz, took team to first place of the League. 2005 January: Returns to Club America for the third time. May: Captains America to win the Mexican Torneo de Clausura. June: Pulls himself out of the National team roster for Concacaf Gold Cup arguing he needs time to rest. 2006 April: Omitted from coach Ricardo Lavolpe's provisional 26-man Mexican squad for World Cup finals... Captains America to its 5th Concacaf Champions Cup title. 2007 April 2: Joined the Chicago Fire to become the second player to sign with the MLS under the league's new salary cap exception policy. Terms were not disclosed and he is expected to join the team July 1, almost two months after the start of the season. July 14: Scored a penalty kick goal and captained the National team to a 3-1 defeat of Uruguay in the Copa America Third place match. July 22: Played his first game with Chicago Fire in a friendly against Celtic F.C., in which he scored his team's only goal in a 1-1 draw. 2008 June 4: Voted MLS Player of the Month for May after registering two goals and four assists in four matches. He led the Fire to a 3-1-0 record in May with all three wins coming on the road. July 24: Chosen as the game's most valuable player, after scoring one goal and setting up another, in the MLS All-Stars 3-2 victory over English Premier League team West Ham United. July 31: The U.S. Soccer Federation suspended Cuauhtemoc Blanco from U.S. Open Cup play for at least two years, after he punched DC United midfielder Clyde Simms in the stomach and poked him in the eye July 8 during an Open Cup quarterfinal game against them. After being ejected, he also head-butted a United employee trying to lead him away. September 10: Aged 35, Blanco announded his retirement from the Mexican national team after the 2-1 defeat of Canada in Chiapas.
