May 29: Made his Argentinian League debut in the River Plate 1-2 defeat against Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata.

October 8: Higuaín scored two goals in River Plate's 3-1 victory over Boca Juniors and River manager Daniel Passarella said: "I think he has an enormous future" ahead of him. "I don't know how much longer he is going to be in Argentina but the big teams in Europe are interested in him and I don't think he'll stay long here with us."
November 14: Gonzalo Higuaín rejected a France call-up by manager Ray Domenech for the friendly against Greece, claiming he is not yet ready to choose between Argentina and Les Bleus.
November 19: River Plate have turned down a €10-million offer from Real Madrid for striker Gonzalo Higuain. "We're not satisfied with the price nor the idea of handing over the player at the end of the year," River Plate secretary Mario Israel said.
December 14: Real Madrid have completed the signing of River Plate forward Gonzalo Higuain. The Spanish club agreed terms with River for a fee in the region of €13million and a six-and-a-half year contract.

January 26: Gonzalo Higuain told French coach Raymond Domenech that he will never play for Les Bleus.
February 24: Netted his first goal for Real Madrid as the club escaped from local derby against Atletico with a point after a 1-1 draw in the Primera Liga.
June 17: Helped Real Madrid to end their four-year trophy drought when they won the league title for the 30th time after a dramatic 3-1 comeback victory over Real Mallorca at the Bernabeu.

May 4: During the Real Madrid v Osasuna match, Higuain replaced captain Raul Gonzalez midway through the second half and turned the match, and the title, in Los Merengues's favour by crossing for Arjen Robben to head in before driving in the winner seconds later. "Scoring a goal like that is one of the most special moments for a footballer," he said.
November 8: Scored four goals to give 10-man Real Madrid a 4-3 victory over Malaga.
